Coping with the Holidays when Your Loved One is Missing
The memories we hold inside especially after we lose a loved one are always a little more bittersweet around the holidays. We don’t have to be physically together to know that those cherished memories are deep rooted in our heart and soul and nothing no matter what can take them from us, thank god!
I liked the following holiday stepping stones from http://activelyaware.blogspot.com, they are good ideas to live by when going through these difficult times.
Holiday stepping stones
Have a backup plan
Embrace the feelings – both good and bad
Realize it doesn’t have to be the best holiday ever – just get through it!
Find something different to do
Take the pressure off of yourself – don’t fake it
Have reasonable expectations of yourself and others
Add something to your tradition that honors your loved one – light a candle
Create whatever holiday you want
“I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge- myth is more potent than history- dreams are more powerful than facts- hope always triumphs over experience- laughter is the cure for grief- love is stronger than death.”
